European Minerals Day 2011
On 13-15 May 2011, around 180 quarries in 32 countries in and outside Europe opened their doors to the public and invited local communities and schools to explore the world of minerals and witness the sector's commitment to biodiversity.
The event was linked to European topics related to the new Raw Materials strategy, Biodiversity, Resource Efficiency and Innovation - and could count on the support from members of the European Commission (Antonio Tajani, Janez Potocnik) and of the European Parliament a.o. The European Minerals Day aims to increase the transparency and awareness of the non-energy extractive minerals sector and to foster dialogue with stakeholders.
Organisers: IMA-Europe, CEMBUREAU and UEPG. More information on: www.mineralsday.eu.

"Product Stewardship in the industrial minerals sector", Brussels, 9 November 2010
Industrial Minerals, such as lime, are vital for the manufacture of everyday items upon which modern society relies, and they have a role to play in the development of sustainable solutions for the future. The 2010 IMA Conference will address Product Stewardship which can be defined as an integrated business process for identifying, managing and minimizing the health, safety, environmental and regulatory risks through all the stages of a product's life in the best interest of society. The speakers will be giving examples of how the industrial minerals sector applies Product Stewardship principles into its activities, leading to sustainable solutions with regard to environmental design and engineering, regulatory compliance, safe product handling and supply chain management. At this occasion, EuLA will give a presentation on LCI and carbon footprint. See preliminary conference programme.
